These homes (shown on this spage) are designed to be built initially on a flatbed trailer so that
it can be used as a Camper RV (recreational vehicle) and can be transported or
towed- (moved by towing using any pickup truck or very strong car) until such time as you can
locate and prepare a site and foundation to permanently place your new tiny home.
At that point, you may need small changes to make it to building codes in your particular town.
But if you should decide to have your home built on a foundation by a contractor instead of building it yourself
I HIGHLY suggest researching your local contractors by checking them out in advance.
Angies list is a great site that collects info on local contractors and makes the info available to you.

The small homes shown here are designed to be able to be altered for anyones taste and style or size requirements.
Once your tiny house is built, and you find a location to put it (if you dont
plan to tow it around forever), you can simply locate a piece of land and build a foundation and permanently
place your newly built house on the foundation and anchor it to the foundation using
large bolts you can set in the wet concrete of the newly poured or concrete block foundation.
Please consult your LOCAL building codes to see if it is allowed in your area.
But in the meantime, it can always be left on the trailer and maintaining it as an RV camper.

Please scroll down for blueprints for standard houses you can build yourself in as little as a week .
You will not need a building permit to build this project since it is
initially built on a trailer and not a foundation to start with for
this tiny house project.
HOWEVER, you MAY need to consult your local state laws regarding recreational vehicles
or trailer laws as far as the requirments for certain brakes, suspension, hitch and or
height specifications, limitations or standards.

To Donate to our cause, click the following Donate button.

But once you do find land, and decide to permanently anchor your
tiny house, you will need a permit in some places to
build your foundation.
Then you can simply pull your
towed tiny house in, locate it over the foundation and lower
it on the foundation and anchor it using large lag bolts that you
permanently put in the concrete when it is still wet and not yet set.
The best way to lower your house about 3 inches is to simply let the air
out of the tires once you locate the corners of the house over the
foundations walls.

To save a photo, simply click on the JPG or PDF links.
PLEASE REMEMBER- THIS IS A BASIC DESIGN AND IS MEANT TO
BE ALTERED TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS OR DESIRES, AND THIS PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO
BE BUILDABLE BY ANYONE WITH BASIC CARPENTRY SKILLS AND THE DESIGNS SHOWN HERE ARE
MADE TO BE CHANGED TO SUIT THE TRAILER YOU ARE GOING TO USE.
THE DESIGNS SHOWN HERE ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE ONE YOU WILL END UP WITH .
YOU CAN CHANGE THINGS AROUND AND ALSO CHANGE THE ROOF ANGLES, ADD OR REMOVE WINDOWS,
MOVE THE BATHROOM, CABINETS ETC.
BUT THE LARGER OF A TRAILER YOU USE, THE LARGER YOUR BUILDING CAN BE.

The spacing of individual rafters and joists should be no more than 16 inches from center to center or less.
The walls, floors, loft etc. can be constructed using either galvanized steel screws, galvanized nails, or brass screws.
Screws are always better than nails.
Period.
They have much better clamping ability and they dont pull out like nails do.
All of the interior walls are to be covered in plywood also to prevent racking,
instead of using drywall would not help as much structurally and can crack.
Plywood will only make it that much more strong and sturdy as well as better insulated.

Each house shown has a full bathroom, kitchen, loft bedroom and living area.
You may also add other ammenities such as cabinetry, stairs or ladder,
bookcases, and each can fit at least a queen size bed in the loft bedroom.
I have even designed a rudimentary dumbwaiter under the stairs.
There is enough room for a refrigerator, stove-cooktop, microwave,
tub and shower, toilet, sinks, and much more.
The designs I have made are for a home that will fit on a 8foot by 16 foot flat bed trailer or larger.
The Larger the trailer you use, the larger the house you can build.
So, alter your plans (obviously) to suit the trailer you will use.

The following pictures are drawn to show the construction methods of a tiny house that
you can build yourself on an existing flatbed trailer.
The size of the house you decide to build is directly proportional to the size and
especially weight capabilities of the trailer you have or choose to buy.
There are no exact specific (SET IN STONE) measurements on the drawings because trailers come in
so many different lengths and widths, and you will have to measure the trailer you have FIRST
before you start building.
But you can use the designs shown here to alter the sizes accordingly.
Also there are no electrical or plumbing schematics in these plans (in most cases) because the designs are
not finalized and you will need to
plan out your own home first and decide for yourself where
you will want things like outlets, sinks and other accessories before
any plans can be made for them.

At that point (once you've decided where you want your refrigerator and other items and
outlets , you can then make the schematics yourself or simply wire it up as you need things.
But remember, if you plan to install this on land permanently, you should
wire your home according to local building codes to prevent fires.
This will require a electrical control panel with breakers and everything else required by local electrical code
But trust me, its well worth it.
But since we are talking about using this tiny house as a trailer at first, we can
either leave it without electricals for now (except brake lights, turn signals,
and other required lighting required by local motor vehicle code for trailers..
or we can wire if as a basic RV, (trailer home, camper etc)
For wiring it as an RV I recommend wiring the house for 12 volt DC, if you dont wire it for 120 volt AC .
But my best suggestion would be to wire if from the beginning with 30-40amp (or even 60 amp ) 120 volt AC service
but your choice of electricity SOURCE is totally up to you.
I recommend going green using wind or solar power or other green technology.
Either way , at least you will be able to use standard 120 volt AC accessories and appliances
such as point of use hot water heaters, refrigerators, lighting, etc.

I highly recommend using a dual axle trailer with a gross weight capacity over 7000 lbs (pounds) capacity
and higher ( an 8000 pount would be great).
And I also recommend that you use the highest capacity trailer you can afford.
The smaller, or lighter, that the trailer is, the less weight it can carry, so I suggest going stronger rather than
weaker.

Some final words:
Conclusion

These plans are free to everyone for building a tiny home - small house project.
Included are full size bathroom, kitchen, loft bedroom, standard utilities etc.
I drew them myself by reverse engineering and recombining elements from many
different home designs of all sizes and came up with my own set or series of designs .
They are designed to be as small as practical, affordable to build , buildable in a short period of time,

If you would like to add some solar heat collectors, I am providing a link to a page that will show you
how to make simply modular solar heat collectors that you can make from repurposed materials.
The following link will open up in a new window so that you do not lose your place here on our site.
Home Made Solar Heat Collectors made from repurposed materials.
This passive solar project (when made larger) would be very efficient in producing free heat during the day in winter time.
Please check this out. And when I build this project myself, I will also document it so that you can
see how to build the improved version that is more efficient and produce even more heat.
But please note, this will only work during the day .
Be sure to have other supplimental heating for your
house to cover night time and during cloudy or stormy days
such as a wood burning stove, stored electrical energy for heaters,
or a gas , liquid propane heater.

I offer these plans to you, the general public, for free , to use to build your own home
in hopes that it will help prevent someone from being homeless.
Ive seen similar homes such as these sold as pre-built houses ready to put on foundations and
they run more than $30,000 or more!
I thought that was more than outrageously high (bordering on highway robbery)
And I know for a fact that anyone can build their own home for much less.
Thats why I posted these plans here for free- to help people .
And in this day and age where every thing costs more and more,
I wanted to help people save some money , resources, time and space.
But remember these costs (to build this home) do not include the cost of wiring, plumbing, heating and appliances
which of course will range widely on location and the owners or builders tastes and needs.
So In essence, if your lucky enough to score a free trailer, or a used one, and lots of free building materials,
you Could, possibly build your own house for next to nothing.

But that may be too much to expect, so if you go all out, and purchase a new
trailer, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1000 to $3000 for a trailer
depending on size and type, numbers of axles etc..
So for about $6000 (more or less- including the cost of trailer) you could have a custom house!
